Half the group headed out early this morning for our final user interviews at the newly-built Bệnh viện Đa Khoa Tỉnh Hải Dương (Hai Duong Hospital), just under two hours east of Hanoi.

We had heard great things about their facilities from Tim and Malory’s visit last month and had new card sort and co-design methods we’d developed from our previous interviews, so we were excited for the visit. Doctor Quang, the head of the hospital’s Resuscitation Department, gave us a tour of the hospital’s NICU and introduced us to the babies in their incubators and singular Firefly.

Afterwards, Dr. Quang generously allowed us to interview him and Nurse Lực for a card sort and co-design. To learn more about how their current warmers were used and how Otter might fit in, we had them sort index cards that had babies with different jaundice, temperature, and weight conditions into their warmer + phototherapy setups and tell us why. We were also able to show them our current Otter alpha prototype and gather their insights on interface design, controls placement, and bassinet form factors.

The other half of the team worked on various technical aspects during the morning, including a “water bag” test of one of our prototypes to roughly simulate how it would warm a baby and discussing MTTS quality control & standards. In the afternoon, we regrouped for a full overview of MTTS’ Product Development Pipeline and related documentation by Greg. Now we’re getting everything in order for our final presentation to MTTS before we leave!
